Pre-Rut Tactics For October Whitetails

Many bow hunters today say that October is the best time to be in the woods. True, peak rut is the undoubtedly the best time to be in your stand from sunrise to sunset. It's the best to set in your stand all day and the reason bening that most hunters get down from there stand around 11 and go and grab a bite for breakfast and come back later in the day around 2 or 3. The reason to stay all day is when other hunters decide to get down and leave there is a chance they can spook deer on there way out and they could run right toward you and if your not there you just could of missed the buck of your dreams. The other reason is most big bucks don't move till around 11:30 because the threat of danger is so high they just stay bedded up till they since that danger is gone.October is also the best time to patteren a mature buck what happens from the benging of October to the first of November mature bucks follow there same routine, same paths, same everything,if you can pattern one of these buck you just might have a chance at a buck of a lifetime. The best way to patteren a mature buck is first to scout the area your hunting find water sources, food sources, find were the bedding area is, old rubs, old scrapes anything that can point you to were deer might have been or might be. Set trail cameras in these locations if you have a bunch of action out of these places set up a stand, put out some corn,high-pro anything to keep the deer interested so that they keep comming back to your stand. During the Pre-Rut you can use deer attrcatants to help bring a big buck in, most people will disagree with me about this but heres my reason why, mid October mature bucks are wandering all over the place looking for that first doe to breed with and the season goes on a November rools around its going to be hard to see a deer because there smart they know they are bening hunted and they know not to show themselves during the daylight. That's why deer start turning more and more nocturneal as it gets later and later in the season. There is thatone occasion that a big buck will strole his way in november looking for a hot doe. Last year i was hunting in a stand second day of October i saw more buck that one day then i did the season before. There were all sizes of bucks most little but with 15 minutes of light left the biggest buck ive ever seen steeped out 30 yards and i let the arrow fly to see i shot and inch over him and nailed the tree with my easton arrow. October 4,2009 the moster buck was taken by my dad same stand i sa him at 2 days before he final scored 166 7/8.

The Mathews Z7 and the Hoyt Alphaburner are both new bows for 2010. But which bow is the the best, not only shooting wise, but also preformance, handling, quiteness, and quickness is wat you are looking for in a new bow. So we put the two top of the line bows for 2010 in a head to head challange the Alphaburnrer versus the Z7 to see which bow is the best to have come hunting season. Before we talk about the statistics of what happend lets take a closer look at both bows and you decide which would be the best for you. The Mthews Z7 has the perfect blend of speed and accuracy with an ultra smooth draw. The Z7 comes standard with the dead end string stop, harmonic dampers, monkey tails for added quiteness, and a slim fit grip so the bow doesn't fly out of your hand when you shoot. The Mathews Z7 comes with 80 percent let off and up to 75 pound draw weight standard. The Mathews Z7 at 75 pounds is pushing 335 feet per second that's humming if your a deer hunter you will agree speed is a key factor when it comes to hunting. Now lets look at the Alphaburner. The Hoyt Alphaburner is new for 2010 and right now is the hottest selling bow in the country. The Alphaburner has it all, a speed bow that's easy to shoot, it is the perfect bow for thoes who crave speed but demand accucary. The cool thing about the Alphaburner is the limbs are the lighest weight fiberglass and dipped in a bulletproff rozen so the will not crack or break when droped. The Alphaburner only weighs 4 pounds compared to the Z7's 6.5 pounds, The Alphaburner is today the fastest production compound bow known to man it shoots 346 feet per second at 65 pounds. At 80 pounds it's pushing 365 feet per second. In my own opinion the new Alphaburner is the way to go it's the lightest, fastest, and most percision bow known to man.

How to track a deer with no blood trail

When you shoot a deer wether it be with a gun or a bow you experience alot of emotions, your adernaline rushes, your heart races, you shake uncontrollably, but even though you are experienceing these emotions your main goal as a deer hunter is to make sure you put a good clean ethical shot on your animal. Anything can happen when you let your arrow fly or when you shoot your gun if you bow hunt you need to make sure you have a good view of your targe area. An arrow doesnt have eyes it can't see were to go thats why you wait for an open shot take your time and try to realx and clam your emotions down. When you shoot you need to pay attention to your shot placement because your arrow can hit a limb a nock your arrow off target an inch or two so you have to pay attention to every detail. After yor shot it's best to give the animal about 25 to 30 min to bed up, then gentaly ease your way down to were he was standing if your bow hunting the first thing is to look for the arrow if no arrow look for blood if no blood or arrow but you know for a fact you watched the arrow make contact walk the way the ran. It's important to watch the deer run till you can't see him anymore and mark the last spot you saw him and gentally make your way toward were you last saw him looking everywere on the ground for blood and the arrow and it front of you for the deer. If after 20 to 30 yards without blood or the arrow the best thing to do is head to either a water source such as a creek, pond, spring, ect..., the second choice is head to the bedding aera. My dad took a 12 pointer this year and there was no arrow or blood but there was a water source a creek about 20 yards from were the deer was taken and a bedding area about 85 yards from were the deer was taken. Lairrie my pappaw was hunting eith my dad he said he thinks the deer ran to the creek but the deer ran the opposite way my dad went toward the bedding area and my pappaw went into the creek 20 yards into the creek laying in a spring was the majestic whitetail buck. So it goes to show you that preserverence is everything when it comes to deer hunting never give up on looking for your deer think of everywere a deer could go and go from there.

Deer Hunting Strategies

During the time before deer season starts there is a lot of preparation to take in account for. Considering you hunt different during the early season then you do the late late season. During the early season around September to the end of October you want to concentrate on food sources such as accorns, clover, alfalfa, and any other food source found in nature that a whitetail deer cravrs. There are other food sources that deer crave that can be planted, put in feeders and spread over an area such as corn, minerals, high protine, salt blocks, apple blocks, ect.. there are alot of food sources you can buy that deer crave but that might vary for area to area you may use corn on one of your famrs and on your other farm deer might act differently to corn. In early season it is very easy to pattern deer track there movements. It's easy these days to patteren whitetails with trail cameras but as the sesons change deer change there patterens. If your seening deer at a stand that has an abundance of food source such as corn it is very likely that as the seasons change deer change so instead of them visiting your stand during the day they start visiting it at night because the threat for danger is lower at night during the day and as winter comes it is harder to pattern these deer that's why you you have to chsnge your style of huntig as well. When late season arrives from November to January your style changes during november deer come into rut and they are constantly chaseing does to breed with during this time you can call a deer in with many tool such as a grunters, rattling horns, can calls, and ect..Depending on where you the best time to hunt is in the morning because the deer have been feeding all night and they are likely to be heading to there beeding area and you you have a stand next to there beeding area you are likely to connect on a good mature whitetail.

The New Robertson Co, Kentucky archery record

For all the people that don't know where Robertson County is it's the smallest county in the state it borders Harrison County, Nicholas County, Bracken County, and Pendleton County. On October the fourth of 2009 what was considered to be the new county record had been taken in a little small town called Mount Olivet in Robertson County. This majestic whitetail was taken by a Mister Chris Caldwell hunting on Private land with his Father. That Day was like any other day it was cloudy and overcast highs in the 60's but little did Mister Caldwell know that his life would change and that he would be the new holder of the county record and as of January 18,2010 it was the biggest typical buck taken with a bow during the 2009-2010 season and is ranked at 17 in the state. The monster buck green scord at 169 7/8 an eigth inch shy form 170, and it final scored at 166 6/8. The big buck will be debut in the Kentucky Game and Fish Magazine, and also in the Kentucky Hunting and Trapping guide for the 2010-2011 season.
